Finnish word PAIKKA can be translated as a place or a patch. It can mean exact coordinates, a concrete place where you can make ceramics, a patch that corrects something that is broken and in a wider sense even as a state of mind.

Ceramic studio Pot Viapori at Suomenlinna is a special place. It has

left its mark on those who work or have worked there and those who just visit the place.

The theme of the exhibition has been approached with a strong nature experience,

and through sociality and human presence.

From these perspectives, Pot Viapori’s 50th anniversary exhibition is

a meeting in a place, a moment in time. It brings together colleagues using the same material and having experiences of the same place, Pot Viapori.

Now they share a glimpse of their own world. A condensation of something shared together. Material, expression, art and life.

CELEBRATION PUBLICATION: POT VIAPORI – A PLACE ON THE ISLAND

Editors: Camilla Groth, Eeva Jokinen and Liisa Ikävalko

The book celebrates Pot Viapori’s 50th anniversary and presents

an exhibition compiled in honor of the anniversary. However, the goal of the book is

wider, as we open a window on Finnish studio ceramics and

the importance of shared studio from the artists’ perspective. We assembled

reports and observations on the culture and activities at Pot Viapori,

through texts of ceramic artists who work there now or who have worked there.

By giving a sound to ceramic artists, we get a peek

to different eras and moods from the very beginning to the present day

and even future-oriented ideas at Pot Viapori.

The book will be published on the occasion of the 50th anniversary, 8/21/2022
